NYX Pro Foundation Mixer | PFM03 White/Blanc

by - December 17, 2017

If you keep up with my blog, you may remember reading that I bought a foundation around August time and I thought it was one of the culprits which made me have a really bad allergic skin reaction.
While I managed to find the real reason for it *shakes fist at peaches*, I think the foundation played a small part in it too. But most importantly, I found that the foundation I got matched to, did not match me at all! The foundation in question is the Nars Sheer Glow in the shade Stromboli. I told the girl at the Nars counter that I wanted a darker foundation that would match my neck, because my current Nars foundation in Fiji, the tone was correct but was about 1-2 shades too light for me.

In the above photos I'm wearing Nars Sheer Glow - Fiji.
You can see quite a difference in colour from my face to my neck, especially in different lighting.

I didn't quite know what to do with Stromboli since it was too dark for me, I literally left the foundation in my drawers for a good 3 months. It seemed like such a waste to not use it since it's an expensive foundation, but it wasn't my match and in the UK, once makeup is opened you can't return it.

As a vivid YouTube watcher, I started hearing about foundation "lighteners" and "darkeners" floating around the YouTube world, but mainly from the more high end brands. I wanted something more affordable and from a brand I've used before, so I did some research, and came across the NYX Pro Foundation Mixer. I was surprised they had this kind of product, as I've walked past their counters a few times but never noticed them before.

I bought the PFM03 White/Blanc, as I needed my foundation lightening, it also comes in 5 other shades.
(From left to right) WHITE - White // OPALESCENT - Sheer White with Opalescent Shimmer // LUMINOUS - Champagne Cream with Gold Undertone // WARMTH - Burnt Orange // OLIVE - Deep Beige with Olive Undertone // DEEP - Deep Dark Brown

It comes in a squeezy plastic tube, 30ml, so the same as your average foundation bottle. The consistency of the mixer is somewhere between a cream and lotion.
I'm still figuring out the right ratio of mixer to foundation to find my perfect medium through trial and error. So for now, I normally just eyeball the amount of mixer to use with my foundation, then just highlight and contour to balance everything out.

Sorry in advance, the following photos are off in colour, as I normally take blog photos in natural lighting, but it starts getting dark around 3pm in the UK now, and I don't usually wake up till 3pm... But hopefully you can see the effects of the product.

Here it is in better-ish lighting.
The top light colour is Nars Sheer Glow Fiji, middle colour is Nars Sheer Glow Stromboli, and the bottom light colour is Stromboli mixed with the NYX Pro Foundation Mixer.

The way I use it, is I put a bit of my foundation on the back of my hand and then squeeze a tiny amount of the Pro Mixer into it. I'll add more mixer into it if I feel like it's not light enough. Go small at first, as you can always build up how light it goes.

I know it might be tempting to squeeze the mixer directly into the foundation bottle, but I would advise not to. You could accidentally go too heavy handed with it and squeeze more mixer into the foundation than needed, then there's no going back. Also depending on the season, your skin tone might change, so it's better to just mix yourself a new shade each time you use it, and adjust the amount of mixer you need accordingly.

I bought mine from a bigger Boots store at £8, you can also buy it online. I really think this NYX Pro Foundation Mixer is such a helpful product, and for the price, it honestly is worth every penny and more. It doesn't change the texture or consistency of the foundation, so you don't have to worry about it applying differently to before.

I hope you liked this post and found it useful somehow.
